KEY WEST, Florida Keys — Fans of good writing can explore a roster of literary and theatrical events during Hemingway Days 2012, set for Tuesday through Sunday, July 17-22. The festival celebrates the literary accomplishments and exuberant Key West lifestyle of legendary writer Ernest Hemingway, who lived on the island throughout the 1930s.

Sept. 11 Anniversary Memorial to be Held at Historic Key West Fire House

KEY WEST, Florida Keys — The heroes and victims of 2001’s Sept. 11 terror attacks are to be remembered on the 10th anniversary of the tragedy at the soon-to-be-opened Key West Fire House Museum.

The memorial is set for 6 p.m. at Old Fire House No. 3 at the corner of Virginia and Grinnell streets. The historic fire station, which operated from 1907 until 1998, is one of the oldest in Florida.

KEY WEST, Florida Keys — The life of “Captain Tony” Tarracino, a legendary former Key West bar owner and one-time island mayor, is to be celebrated Aug. 11-14 with a lighthearted festival.
