KEY WEST, Florida Keys — Internationally renowned food writers are to offer a mouthwatering exploration of food in literature during the 29th annual Key West Literary Seminar.

Two independent sessions of the seminar are scheduled, Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 6-9 and Jan. 13-16. Both are themed “The Hungry Muse.”
Most presentations are to take place at Key West’s historic San Carlos Institute, 516 Duval St.

More than 25 memoirists, novelists, historians, journalists, poets, essayists and others are scheduled to speak between the two sessions. They include memoirist and former “Gourmet” editor-in-chief Ruth Reichl, legendary “New York Magazine” restaurant critic/columnist and author Gael Greene, American humorist and best-selling author Calvin Trillin, Pulitzer Prize–winning food critic Jonathan Gold and author/journalist Adam Gopnik of “The New Yorker.”

Each seminar session begins with introductory remarks and a keynote address set for 7:45 p.m. Thursday. The Jan. 6 keynote, titled “The Taste of Language: A Toast to Toast,” is to be presented by Reichl. The Jan. 13 keynote is to feature Gopnik speaking on “The Rituals of Taste: On Molars & Morals.”

Subsequent days feature readings, lectures, informal talks, panel discussions, receptions, a themed art exhibition and dining at Key West restaurants.

Attendees at both seminar sessions can savor a Saturday evening address by Calvin Trillin and renowned author/humorist Roy Blount Jr.

While most seminar events are open only to registrants, each session includes Sunday afternoon presentations open to the public. Each includes readings and commentary by several of the seminar’s featured writers, and admission is free with first-come, first-served seating.

Ten writers’ workshops are planned Sunday through Thursday, Jan. 9-13, between the two seminar sessions.
Seminar cost is $495 per session or $950 for both. Workshops range from $400 to $450 apiece.
