The winner of the Florida Keys Cyber-Train to Sunshine Contest and a guest can follow the historic railroad’s route through the Keys on the contemporary Overseas Highway, much of which was built on the old railroad bed.
The prize package includes three nights at the Postcard Inn at Holiday Isle in Islamorada and three nights in Key West at the Casa Marina, originally conceived by Flagler and now a Waldorf Astoria Resort. The winner also is to receive a $1,000 air travel card and a $250 rental car certificate.
Also included is free admission to Pigeon Key, a 5-acre island that was once a base camp for railroad workers, a “dip” with dolphins at Marathon’s Dolphin Research Center and free admission to many Key West attractions.
Contest entry also is accessible through Keys social media sites.
Events commemorating the railroad’s centennial year include a performance by a re-enactor portraying railroad founder Henry Flagler, museum exhibitions, a “family fun” day on Pigeon Key, a period costume ball and a Key West parade on Jan. 22.
