Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 225 grams wheat flour
- 1½ teaspoon of salt
- ½ teaspoon of dry instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 120ml of warm water
For the sauce:
- Tomato sauce to taste
- 300g mozzarella
- Basil leaves
Steps:
Preheat oven to 500 ºF
To make the dough:
- In a large bowl, add the flour, salt and yeast; mix the dry ingredients well.
- Make a well in the center of the mixture; slowly add the warm water and then the olive oil.
- Using a wooden spoon, gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the liquid, working from the center outwards until the dough comes together; if it is sticking, add flour, and if it is hard, add water.
- Scrape the dough onto a floured work surface.
- Knead the dough for 10 minutes until it becomes very elastic and soft.
- Grease a bowl with olive oil and dust with flour.
- Place the dough in the greased bowl and cover with a clean, damp kitchen towel; let the dough rest for 1 hour until the dough doubles in size.
After the dough has rested, it’s time to roll it out! Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and, using a wooden rolling pin, roll out the dough to a 10- to 12-inch circle. Transfer the rolled-out dough to a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce, sprinkle the mozzarella and basil. Transfer to a preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
