Costa Cruises and Zeffirino, the historic Genoese restaurant, have partnered to showcase a shared commitment to exceptional gastronomy and promoting the excellent cuisine of the Liguria region in northwest Italy.
Guests aboard Costa’s flagships Costa Toscana and Costa Smeralda will have the opportunity to enjoy an authentic Italian delicacy: pesto, a green sauce that originated in Genoa, which also is home to Costa’s headquarters. This traditional delight will be sourced from Zeffirino, prepared using the original recipe and carefully chosen ingredients from the Italian region.
The renowned pesto will be paired with artisanal trofie – a type of pasta from Liguria – creating an iconic dish of Ligurian tradition: “trofie with pesto.” Guests can order this mouthwatering dish in the main restaurants on board from the premium options available on the menu, for an additional fee.
The collaboration of Costa Cruises and Zeffirino will allow guests to discover the region of Liguria through the flavors of its cuisine. Aboard Costa Smeralda and Costa Toscana, guests can embark on an authentic Italian gastronomic journey as they call at Genoa and Savona in Italy, while savoring Zeffirino’s trofie with pesto on board.
From August to November 2023, Costa Toscana will sail the Mediterranean, visiting Genoa every Friday on a weeklong itinerary exploring Italy, France, and Spain, with calls at Marseille, France; Barcelona, Spain; and Cagliari, Naples and Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy.
From August to December 2023, Costa Smeralda will sail a weeklong itinerary with roundtrip departures from Savona, with calls at Marseille; Barcelona and Ibiza, Spain (changing to Palma de Mallorca Sept. 12); Palermo, Sicily; and Civitavecchia (Rome).
