FOLK MUSIC ICON STOOKEY TO COMMAND KEY WEST STAGE

KEY WEST, Florida Keys — Noel Paul Stookey of the iconic folk music trio Peter, Paul and Mary is to showcase his songs, spiritual/political passion and humor at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Key West’s Tennessee Williams Theatre, 5901 College Road on the campus of Florida Keys Community College. His performance, a unique blend of concert and conversation with an American musical legend, is to benefit the Florida Keys Council of the Arts.

Widely renowned as a musician and social activist, Stookey is praised for his thoughtful, compassionate and sometimes humorous interpretations and compositions. He has recorded more than 45 albums, both as “Paul” of Peter, Paul and Mary, and as a solo performer, and he penned such classic tunes as “The Wedding Song” and “El Salvador.”

“Noel Paul Stookey is such a legend, and each time I mention the event to someone they share a great story about seeing him perform in the late ‘60s or early ‘70s,” said Elizabeth Young, executive director of the Florida Keys Council of the Arts. “Since this is a benefit concert for the arts council, he’s supporting all the arts throughout Monroe County.”

As well as performing, Stookey oversees Neworld Multimedia, presenting new artists and creating children’s television shows and music. The royalties from his “Wedding Song” benefit the Public Domain Foundation, where nearly $2 million has been put toward charitable causes.

Tickets for Stookey’s Feb. 10 benefit performance are priced from $25 to $50 per person, depending on seat location. To purchase tickets, visit www.keystix.com or call 305-295-7676.
